Professor Robert Edwards, who pioneered IVF treatment, was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine. Together with Patrick Steptoe, he developed the fertility treatment which led to the birth of the first 'test-tube' baby, Louise Brown, in 1978. Professor Lisa Jardine, Chair of the HFEA said: 'His was a towering achievement, and the prize comes as a well deserved recognition of his exceptional contribution to reproductive medicine. Many thousands of families have benefited directly from IVF, which has reshaped the world in which we live.' Congratulation to this brilliant man whom I am sure you will all agree we owe many thanks to for the options he has given us for the future! ANNUAL REPORTS SHOW SWEDEN AS NUMBER 1 FOR IVF!
